Employment Dilemma: Navigating EPF Disclosure
I joined Infosys on 26th October 2015 as a System Engineer trainee and left on 10th November 2015 due to a serious medical condition of my mother. I informed the Infosys HRD of the situation, and they granted me leave. I mentioned the possibility of resigning due to the seriousness of the issue. I continued to upload my mother's medical documents to Infosys regularly, extending my leave day by day. Unfortunately, the latest reports did not show improvement, and the doctor was unable to provide good news. This situation left me heartbroken, and my health began to decline due to anxiety and sleepless nights. Consequently, I decided to resign from Infosys around 27th January 2016, and Infosys promptly processed my separation formalities.
During this period, I realized the urgent need to find a job in my hometown to support my family, given the substantial medical bills and my father's retirement. I secured a position in a smaller company, understanding that something is better than nothing, especially given my circumstances. The new company has asked me to fill out their EPF form. However, I have not disclosed my brief employment experience at Infosys, reasoning that 14 days of experience may not hold much weight, particularly since Infosys is a well-known MNC. Despite this, I applied as a Fresher and was hired. The EPF form of the new company inquires about previous EPF-related organizations, prompting me to question whether I should omit my previous employment details, considering Infosys' delayed relieving letter process, which might take around 45 days.
I am torn about whether to be dishonest on the new company's form by selecting "No" regarding previous EPF-related employment. I acknowledge that lying is unethical, but my situation has left me in turmoil. I seek your guidance on how to proceed.
Regards, Monty
P.S. During my brief tenure at Infosys, I did not sign any EPF-related forms and therefore do not have my PF account number. Although my salary was credited, I am unsure if they deducted my PF amount for those 14 days. I speculate that Infosys may have opened a PF account in my name without my signature, intending to deposit the amount once I return to complete the necessary forms. In my separation formalities with Infosys, there was a PF withdrawal form, but I do not wish to claim the money or transfer it. Infosys operates a PF trust, whereas my new company is directly linked to EPFO.
I am puzzled as to how a company can establish a PF account for an employee without their signature. Your assistance in clarifying this matter would be greatly appreciated.
