Struggling to Find a Job in a New City Without Contacts – Any Advice for Me?

Greetings to all, my name is Om Bhaskar Prajapati. I have a BE in Mechanical Engineering. Currently, I am living in Chennai, where I have been searching for a job for about 3 months now. I have tried various methods such as sending job applications door-to-door, using LinkedIn, making numerous calls, and exploring various websites. However, in my experience, most companies prefer candidates who are referred by someone known to them. Unfortunately, I do not have any contacts in this unfamiliar place. Moreover, consultancies require substantial fees, which I, being a middle-class individual, find challenging to manage. I apologize for sharing my personal thoughts, but it is the reality I am facing. I humbly request everyone to consider giving me an opportunity to work as I am in desperate need of a job.

Job Application Strategy

Do not apply to every job you come across. That's a common mistake candidates make. Instead, search for jobs that match your expertise.

Before applying, research the company to understand its culture and see if it fits you.

Resume Preparation Tips

For each job, prepare a fresh resume. Keep the following in mind:

- The first paragraph should highlight your capabilities rather than ask for a job.
- Do not include the following in your resume:
a) Photograph
b) Logo of any certification
c) Multiple email IDs
d) Hobbies
e) Activities like games, dance, drama, etc., from school or college
f) Colorful fonts

Avoid the statement, "I hereby declare that all the above-mentioned details are true to the best of my knowledge and belief."

Your resume should be saved with your name and profile in DOC format only.

Interview Preparation

Remember the companies you have applied to, and if you get a call, show your enthusiasm for working with them. Companies prefer candidates who are passionate about working for them.

Don't be disheartened; only 35% of vacancies are filled with the right candidate, while the rest are time-shift arrangements. Prepare for the interview as you would for exams.
