Hello, I am a first-year management student interested in taking HR as my major. I would like suggestions from an industrial perspective on which HR electives can actually help me in my career. The electives offered are:

- Personal Growth Program
- Change Management
- Compensation & Benefits
- Counseling in the Workplace
- Organizational Theory
- Strategic Human Resource Development
- Training and Development
- Talent Management
- Knowledge Management
- Industrial Relations & Labour Laws

Kindly give your valuable suggestions.

The Importance of Industrial Relations and Labour Laws in HR

Post Graduate Program in HR without Industrial Relations and Labour Laws as one of the major electives is just a waste. This is a dull subject, and the college academic councils used to give the least preference to Labor Laws. However, this is the only paper that can be directly applied to your company once you get a job in HR. Along with it, you can opt for Compensation Management. Other subjects might give you good marks but will not help you much in your career.

Sorry, I have drawn this from my experience in HR for over two decades during which I have had the opportunity to train a number of freshers from reputed management schools, most of whom had not given importance to Labor Laws in their academics.
