Hi Kishorry,

I think you need to consider what happens if at the end of the extended probation, his performance is still not up to par. What happens then? On what basis do you gauge his performance? Have you informed him throughout the course of the probation period of his performance? What areas does he need to improve on? Was he given the right training and counseling?

If you have done all that and at the end of the probation period, you still find him lacking and there are no marked improvements, then instead of keeping the guy, you ought to just dismiss him. Unless you still see a glimmer of hope and think that things will improve. If so, then proceed to extend his probation.
