Can a Distance PG in Business Law from NLS Bangalore Help Me Become a Law Officer in PSU Banks?

neer737
Sir, I am working as a clerk in a reputed PSU Bank. I want to pursue post-graduation in law. I have heard about a distance education course in Masters in Business Law from the National Law School, Bangalore. Will it be recognized in PSU banks? Will I have the opportunity to work in the legal departments of PSU banks? I aspire to work as a Law Officer in my bank. Please guide me.

Thank you.

Value of Distance Law Courses in Banking Sector

Distance law courses have no value in the banking sector. It is better for you to pursue a full-time L.L.B. course. Is it necessary for you to have a law degree to work in the law department of your bank? Examination of various banking documents can be done based on experience. You should have sufficient knowledge of your bank's advances portfolio and the documents required for various types of fund-based and non-fund-based facilities.

Filing suits against defaulting borrowers must be entrusted to your bank's panel advocates. In that case, you have to read, examine, and understand each and every necessary document for filing a suit. Based on a law degree, you can't appear in court on behalf of the bank; you can only appear as a representative of the bank. You should have sufficient knowledge of applicable laws such as the SARFAESI Act-2002 with all provisions, Section 138 of the Negotiable Instrument Act, etc.

Sir,

But with this course, will I not get professional knowledge plus a degree in law? What is your suggestion; should I go for it?

Dear,

You may go for a full-time L.L.B. course. A simple L.L.B. degree will not serve the purpose. You should take more interest in the Loan & Advances section of your bank. Everyone feels good while availing loans & advances from banks, but when you go for the recovery of public money, everyone will start perceiving you differently. In regular banking, there are very few learning opportunities, but in the Loans & Advances section, you can learn more, which will help you in building your career.
