I have joined an MNC and have not submitted my relieving letter as my previous employer (a Bahraini Company) is not issuing the relieving letter. My previous employer has marked me as absconded during verification, and I am in serious trouble now. I resigned from my post during vacation and sent my resignation through email. I would like to know what action will be taken by my current employer as negative feedback has been given by my previous employer.

Strictly speaking, nobody can speak for and on behalf of your present employer. Whether you can be fired or not depends on the generous or strict policy of the present employer.

As per general practice, since you left the previous organization without notice and suppressed this fact from the current employer (possibly lied to them during the interview), the current employer may terminate your appointment. If you are a valuable resource that is difficult to replace, they might give you a chance to explain. If you have any supporting documents showing that they accepted your resignation and relieved you, please show those to HR immediately.

Thank you for your reply. I have sent the resignation acceptance email to HR. I am willing to pay for the notice period but the previous company is not responding. I am currently not in Bahrain, so I am unable to go and discuss this in person.

While you were interviewed in your current organization, did they ask you why you want to leave your then-current organization and hence leave Bahrain? What did you answer?

Based on that, you can have an idea of what you can expect (whether you flatly lied or you had answered in a way that can somewhat support your abrupt resignation without settling any FNF) and also can prepare if any sort of NC is raised against you. What designation do you work in?

I am in a software development profile. I handed over my responsibilities to a team member, which they usually do when someone is going on vacation. I resigned properly with an official email ID, and it was accepted. However, a company can still mark someone as 'absconded' even after the handover and resignation.

If your appointment letter states that serving a notice period or buying out the notice period (either/or) is mandatory in the event of either party terminating the employment, then it needs to be abided by. Otherwise, yes, the company can mark you as 'absconded' even after you hand over your resignation.
