Facing Local Threats in UP: How Can HR Navigate Extortion and Safety Concerns?

RAJENDER PRASAD SAINI
Dear Seniors, I have been working with a private Ltd company as HR Head for the past four years. The company is located near the UP-Haryana border in Mathura District, Uttar Pradesh. Although this area is designated as the UPSIDC Industrial Area, some locals are engaged in farming and asserting their interests by presenting High Court orders. They are also involved in the real estate business due to support from political entities, UPSIDC, police, and the local public. These individuals pose threats to both employees and employers, and they even extort money on a monthly and quarterly basis from employers. The managers are the main victims of these activities.

Please advise on how to handle this situation effectively.

Thank you.

This is organized extortion. The police and netas are hand in hand with such criminal activities, that is why it is going on. Your company should complain to the SP or DGP if things are that serious. Higher-level intervention can only stop this open extortion. But take due care as such people can be dangerous.
