Navigating Original Certificate Submission as an HR Recruiter

Sivaperumal L
Hi Friends,

I have been selected in a consultancy as an HR recruiter, and they are requesting me to submit my original certificates. Should I submit them or not? What are the potential issues with submitting original certificates? Please provide your suggestion promptly, as I need to make a decision by tomorrow at 5 pm.

Regards,
Siva

Submitting original educational certificates for verification is perfectly reasonable, but if the company intends to retain the certificates, then it is illegal. Tomorrow, if you want to quit the company for any reason, the company will create trouble in returning your certificates. The company can keep photocopies of your qualifications after checking out your originals. Beyond that, any retention makes it a kind of compulsion on the employee.

Hello Siva,

It's pretty obvious that they are either not sure that you will stay for some time in this job or the track record of the employees here isn't great (many leaving in short periods, for whatever reason(s)). Either way, this isn't a nice or great way to begin any relationship or association. And as Nathrao mentioned, you will be giving them the control of when you want to leave this job.

All the best.

Regards,
TS
