How Can I Politely Ask Colleagues Not to Enter My HR Cabin Without a Reason?

Hi All,

I am working as an HR Executive, and I would like to post a notice stating that individuals should not enter my cabin without any work. Can anyone suggest the right wording for this notice?

How can you stop people from coming outside your office? At best, you can set specific query timing for HR-related matters in your office. Have other HR executives or your HR head put up such notices?

No, but I have been asked to put up a notice as people walk into our cabin without any work.

Addressing Unnecessary Interruptions in the Workplace

What if every time someone barges into the cabin on the pretext of having some work, who will decide before he comes into the cabin whether he has work or not and then lets him in? We do not know what kind of work arrangement is at your office. It sounds somewhat strange in this modern age of transformational HR where the emphasis is on connecting with people but not commanding them. You want to put a notice that sends a wrong message. True, there may be someone disturbing your work. If you find people coming in and disturbing you, you can try other means to curb such a habit. For example, see whether such people have enough work on their desk. Give them some additional responsibilities. Allocate time to people for discussions so that they do not come into your cabin during other parts of the day. Deploy staff at the point of need in any other department if you have surplus staff without any work. Look for more employee-friendly options to avoid it.

The Importance of Public Interaction in HR

HR is, to a large extent, a function where public interaction is vital and necessary for effective functioning. Staff should have free access to develop confidence in HR. Restricting access will give negative signals. The purpose for which the OP wants to restrict access is to increase efficiency, but public perception is equally important. Employees can come for personal queries about their leave, etc., but equally for official work. At best, a query timing can be fixed up in consultation with stakeholders or an online query system put in place.

The OP posted the query on 14 December and, despite several replies, has not reverted back. So, there is no point in putting up further posts in the absence of the OP seeking clarifications or giving her thought process on the views expressed.
