Discover How Adobe Reader Can Read Your PDFs Aloud with Simple Shortcuts!

ChaitaliS
Dear All,

I just came across something very interesting... You can listen to any PDF files instead of reading with Adobe Reader 6 or 7 using the following shortcuts:

Ctrl + Shift + B - to hear the entire document
Ctrl + Shift + V - to hear the page
Ctrl + Shift + C - to resume
Ctrl + Shift + E - to stop

Open any PDF file and test... it's unbelievable. It will read the entire content for you! Don't believe it? Just try, guys. It really works and is truly amazing!

Superb...

Hi, Chaitali!

The facility in Adobe is there, and I have tried it for many documents. However, the main drawback of the facility is that it cannot read long sentences with ease. It is very mechanical, and the sound is monotonous. It cannot attend to punctuations like commas, semicolons, etc., quote - unquote. I have tried using it for "reading" :) ebooks, but it does not work well. It can still be used to 'read' some short documents.

Thanks,
Hiten

Hello,

Honestly, I came to know about this option lately. You are right. It is not continuous. But I guess when a long paragraph is there, you can use it. I don't know, but I liked it very much.

Anyways, thanks Hiten for replying. :) :)

Dear Chaitali,

Good piece of information, but it's not working on my computer. I opened a PDF file, but it's not reading even though I pressed the mentioned keys in your email 🙃

Thank you,

Take care

Do you know you can also hear whatever is written in Excel? It uses proper pronunciation. It can also read long sentences and pauses for a comma or a full stop.

Go to Tools > Speech > Show Text to Speech. Try it out.

Hi Liz!

On the Adobe Toolbar, go to 'View', select the option 'Read Out Aloud', choose the "activate read out aloud" option, and then select the option to read a page or the whole document. Hope this helps you. Please let me know whether it worked.

Even for me, when I tried to read certain pages, I could only hear "Warning Page Empty".

This works only for ebooks and not other PDFs where there is a total mixture of photos and text. 8)

Dear,

I tried many times on my old computer but was unable to hear the sound and other features. However, I will try it in my office. It may be very interesting to use, and also there are some new commands in PDF.

Thanks and regards,

Hi Chaitali,

Thank you for the information. I have gone through a couple of PDF files on which I have tested the commands you have posted. It's quite amazing. At the same time, I have realized that it's actually not able to follow any punctuation marks.

Thanks once again.

Hi,

Good info. I tried it out, and it is so funny how it reads everything on the page. Very useful to know the correct pronunciation of words.

Thanks for the appreciation and suggestions! :)
Actually, I was surprised when I came to know about this option. I didn't have any idea about this wonderful feature. There are some drawbacks to it, but it is really amazing! :)
What do you say?

Thanks, Ranjeeta, for the excellent suggestion. Thanks a ton.

Thank you all.

Niyati: I am not aware of any option like this. It might require some software. I would let you know if I get some information. Or our friends on citeHR will tell us.
