Cite HR Meet - Delhi
October 27, 2007
The first encounter...
Sudhir was the first to arrive at the Golf Club – the Venue for the get together. He surprised us all by arriving much ahead of 5.30. Soon Yamini and Sandeep reached. After a while, Narang and Mann arrived as well. By 5.30 almost everybody had joined. After becoming slightly acquainted with each other while standing outside the room planned for the get-together, we knew that this get together would be not only a learning experience academically, but socially as well. Although the group is composed of different talents and personalities, all of us hold the characteristic of being open-minded. My first impression was that the entire group appreciated the arts and our ability to learn, feel, and experience. Perceptions can be deceiving, but they can also set the stage for the rest of the events to follow. We then shifted inside. The room was nice and the atmosphere was relaxed. The excitement grew and is continuing to grow as the first day retreated and the next phase pushes closer.
Introductions...
Today was our first day of meeting with each other, of physically seeing each other in person, so much of talking on cells, so many e-mails but actually meeting took place today. Introduction to one another as well as to the entire group followed. We went over our credentials which we presented in an informal manner--- tension was visible on some faces (more feminine than the rough ones !!). We talked about our employments, our achievements, the problems and so forth. Only the stars and the Milky Way galaxy were spared. The format was informal and so we were able to participate and have a conversation in between rather than a lecture. The team is on many different levels in terms of knowledge about HR which made this format more successful and educational. The youngsters in the group are very helpful and in many ways inspiring. They have already contributed much to the group.
Main focus area...
Sanjukta then took out the monkey from her bag and gave us a form to fill which brought out areas that we wanted help to develop ourselves. We all had to fill this form and at the end Sanjukta and Meha went over each filled form and made a list of those areas which came out as common areas to focus on. Top amongst them ranked Training and Development. We also discussed at length our practical problems and those areas wherein we wanted help. These were not deliberated at length because of the fact that this was the group's first meeting and that too an informal one.
Refreshments…
Light refreshments were served which added to the happiness. There were no hard drinks served as the glares of Sanjukta, Meha, Shalini, Anuradha and Yamini were very discouraging and one couldn't dare to take chances with this ‘FIVE WOMAN ARMY'.
Agenda for the next meeting …
The agenda for the next meeting was discussed then. Right at the top was the date and time. It was unanimously decided that the next meeting would take place between 1100 hrs to 1300 hrs on 04th Nov 2007 at the same venue. Further, it was decided that we would have a talk by Sandeep on training and development for about an hour which will be followed by discussions on the problems facing us in our routine tasks.
There being no further points from any one the meeting came to a close by 8.00 pm.
The group then moved outside in the open for a group photograph which will be made available soon on line by Sanjukta.
Parting is such sweet sorrow...
I know this subheading is beyond cliché', but it is also too appropriate. After all, we have had a short but meaningful interaction. As I sit here trying to put my closing remarks, feelings, and memories of the heart into words, I am unsuccessful. I may not know the answers to the fate of the future meetings, I am reassured that there is a future and that we do have a part in it. After looking at the cite that brought us all closer, there is a feeling of humility. And although we are practically nothing in terms of the depth of the cite and more importantly the term HR, we are a big part in terms of our understanding. We have learned and experienced much. Constant interaction is the greatest accomplishment, and this voyage – the Cite HR Meet and passionate members have given me hope that we can reach our goal.
"What you see is what you get." We all may be different in what we believe, but we all believe in a purpose and we believe in it passionately. There was something in the atmosphere yesterday. Regardless, it brought us together and created our own covenant. This is how we work: gazing at the beautiful creations of HR. GOOD STUFF.
THE END IS ONLY THE BEGINNING.
