Considering a Job Switch for Better Culture: What Salary Hike Should I Expect?

simplysonu7288
I am an IT engineer working in a branded company for the past 7 months. My total experience is now 3 years, and my present CTC is 5.55 L/annum. Due to a bad work culture and too much politics, I am not able to work to the best of my abilities and would like to switch to a company with long-term career plans.

I am not a regular job hopper. This is my second organization in my career so far, and I worked for 2.4 years in the previous organization. Considering this, what salary hike can I expect? How much percentage salary hike should I ask for as I have no intention to switch in the near future? I am looking for a stable career.

Awaiting your reply.

Regards.

Considerations for Switching Jobs and Salary Expectations

Switching a company within 7 months is not a good sign for new employment. However, as your concern is genuine, you may share this with the interviewer. The perception of the interviewer in this matter will decide whether to consider your situation as genuine or fake when it comes to a salary hike. If the interviewer selects you considering it genuine, then never ask them for a salary hike, as this may make them feel that you are switching jobs because of salary.

Be honest and tell them that you want a good company culture and career growth. If they are satisfied with your explanation, they will definitely hire you with a salary that you deserve, as per their company policy, or may simply offer you the same salary you are currently receiving.

I hope this will help you...

Salary Hike Considerations

In fact, as per your query, it appears you are more worried about the salary hike than the work culture. Be focused on your career goals and don't get distracted by short-term gains.

Factors Influencing Salary Hike

Regarding the salary hike, there are no standard set of guidelines. It will all depend on how you impress with your previous experience and satisfy the new interview panelists.

Different companies provide salary packages as per their own set of policies. If you have some special skill sets that the new company may be looking for, you may get a salary hike of even up to 50%. But generally, it is in the range of 20 to 25%, provided you can convince the new company's interview panelists that you have a strong and valid reason for a switch.

Hi,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on my query. The only reason I am asking about a salary hike is that I am not going to switch again in the near future. My priority is definitely a stable career, but if I am asked about salary expectations by a new employer, then how much should I ask in such a case is my concern. If given an opportunity, I would not mind receiving more money than what I am currently getting.

Thank you all for your time and opinions. I have received an offer with a 40% salary hike. I believe in taking a practical approach and following my heart. Why should I work in a place where my sensibilities don't match? With all humility, I don't believe in the old-school thought of a bad resume as everyone is looking for quick solutions, especially in the IT field. My friend, currently working in the new company in the same department, has given me positive reviews about the staff and work culture. So, I am looking forward to joining the same.

Thanks.

"With all humility, I don't believe in the old-school thought of a bad resume as everyone is looking for quick solutions, especially in the IT field. Wish you the best of luck in your new job. Remember the proverb 'old is gold'; it still holds meaning. Companies appreciate employees with a stable resume and not job hoppers. Quick solutions are not always the way out; people look for stable solutions. Anyway, all the best."
