Understanding CLRA: Do We Need a Medical Officer for 1000+ Contract Workers?

solankiabhishek
Dear all,

I would like to enquire if there are any rules in the Contract Labour Regulation and Abolition Act (CLRA) regarding the appointment of a medical officer in any establishment where more than 1000 contract workers are employed.

Hi Buddy,

There is no provision for appointing a medical officer under the CLRA-1970.

Hi Buddy,

According to the Factories Act of 1948, an establishment employing 500 or more employees (including contract workers) should have an ambulance room equipped with prescribed items under the law. Additionally, it should have medical and nursing staff who will be readily available during the working hours of a factory.

Dear Solanki,

DISH authorities specify the type of medical facilities that should be available depending on the nature of the industry:

a. Hazardous.
b. Continuous processing plant.

Other issues are also taken into account. Therefore, please clarify from the DISH Department only.

Dear Solanki,

Please refer to the Factory Act rules of your state. You will find all the details about first aid, medical officers, and other relevant information.

Thank you.
