Challenges and Strategies for HR Functions in the Healthcare Sector

Swathy Nandakumar
Hi all! As a part of an assignment, I am on a quest to understand the different hindering factors affecting the recruitment and retention functions handled by HR in the healthcare sector. Kindly pool in your thoughts.

Hi Swathy! Glad to know about your area of study as it is one of the most neglected areas. According to me, I feel that one of the major problems affecting retention is brain drain. The hospital staff is 'hijacked' abroad where they work with double the pay.

I think that the HR functions in the healthcare sector of our country are very much ignored. I don't even see a well-framed HR department itself in most hospitals. Hence, I feel the functions you mentioned will be difficult.

Good Luck.

Dear M/S Swathy,

The health sector in India is now growing rapidly. It has become a matter of prestige for business houses to enter this field. Big political stalwarts are also stepping forward as the profit potential is significant. However, there is a lack of guidance by a uniform code of conduct. Qualified and experienced staff are either going abroad or changing jobs based on their expertise. Until the healthcare sector establishes some guidelines, I would say it remains a challenge.

Regards
