We face challenges in every single part of HR work, whether you are an entry-level HR professional or an HR manager.

Recruitment Challenges

In the recruitment process, finding and hiring the best candidate for each vacancy is truly challenging. You may encounter a lack of candidate sources, inaccuracies in resumes, traps in interviews, and ensuring a culture fit.

Onboarding Process

During the onboarding process, helping new hires integrate quickly into your company is no easy task.

Employee Engagement and Retention

Furthermore, the more challenging aspect is how to boost employee engagement and retain talent. It's always a significant and enduring question in HR management.

I hope this helps.

Hi Nathrao,

Actually, I want to know the personal experiences of HR managers in these fields. Could you share any personal experiences that you faced as an HR?

Interesting examples arise in legal issues, medical absences of lower-level staff, and absconding by fresh employees. Each such issue brings about a challenge, and we learn many new things and aspects.

HR is indeed complex at times when dealing with the human mind.

Hi Amritha, I am working as an overseas recruiter. I find the biggest challenge is to fill senior vacancies. Finding senior candidates who match the requirements of experience and skills is not difficult with the help of a professional network like LinkedIn, but they are mostly passive candidates. You know, it's not always about the pay and benefits to convince them to leave a company. Besides, personality and culture fit are risky factors that you can only pre-evaluate by following your gut and using your experience. It's a bit harder when recruiting candidates from different cultures.

When you deal with people who can feel, think, speak, express, and emote, challenges come in all forms and sizes, and that too daily. There will be no dearth of them. Sometimes conveying unpleasant news like retrenchment or dismissals to a colleague will also be a challenge as it plays upon the emotions.

Organizational Challenges

The organizational challenges include hiring candidates with the right cultural and competency fit and searching for ideas to engage a disengaged employee. You ask for it, HR will have it. The best way to gain a glimpse into these HR experiences is to work with HR because experience is the best teacher.

You have not answered the question asked by the learned member Mr. Nathrao above regarding what exactly you want to find out. I go a little further and ask why you are keen to know others' experiences in HR. Notwithstanding this, I may say that an experience may have background circumstances, a context, a climax, and the final outcome, involving a series of conversations, transactions, and probably emotions and analysis in between. It cannot make the listener properly appreciate the experience if restricted to a few lines in a discussion forum and may lead to a further question and answer session thereon.

Therefore, the best thing is to spend a few days in HR as an intern if you are a student keen on learning, or to read case studies in an HR magazine or in a library if you are an aspiring HR professional appearing for an interview for an HR position in the manufacturing sector.

Dear Ms. Amrita,

In my personal experience, the major challenges are unprofessionalism, favoritism, groupism, and politics from management and employees. HR has a significant role to play in mitigating these challenges by creating appropriate capabilities across the industry/sector. Without challenges, there is no beauty and future in the profession. So do not be afraid to face difficulties.

Yours Sincerely,
Mohan Nair.
