Joining Bonus Dilemma: Do I Need to Repay if I Resign Before Completing a Year?

Hello Members, My query is regarding the joining bonus and notice period. I joined a company in March 2015 as a Business Analyst in Bangalore. The company offered me a joining bonus of Rs. 50,000. It's been mentioned in the offer letter that if you leave the company before completing 1 year, you have to refund the bonus as applicable. The official notice period in this organization is 2 months. It's been 8 months since I joined this organization, and now my question is - if I look for a new opportunity next month (January) and convert the offer as and then, will I be liable to refund the entire joining bonus to the company, as I am completing 1 whole year of employment (including a notice period of 2 months) in March? Kindly suggest.

The one year mentioned in the offer letter excludes your notice period, so you have to serve until March.

Please refer to the process manual in your organization, which will have details on the same. Most companies that offer a joining bonus will have a similar clause; however, it is solely at the discretion of the employer whether the mentioned 12 months are inclusive or exclusive of the notice period.

However, it is crucial to carefully review the terms and conditions stated in your offer letter and any applicable company policies to ensure clarity on the matter.
