New Employees in Karnataka: How Do We Calculate Professional Tax for Short Working Days?

deepika jadhav
Dear All,

We are facing a problem with professional tax calculation as a few employees have recently joined, and their working days are only 5 to 6 days. How can we calculate professional tax in Karnataka? Please help me.

Hi,

If the total salary exceeds Rs. 15000, then you should consider PT deduction; otherwise, there is no need to deduct. The option to contribute to PT is not based on the number of working days.

Hi, Deepika. If Mr. ABC's actual gross per month is 15000/- and due to any loss of pay (LOP), if he is earning below 15000/-, in that case, you can't deduct the Professional Tax (PT). Even the website will not allow making payment for the employee who receives gross wages less than 15000/-. PT is paid on the Gross Salary only.

Ms. Deepika Jadhav,

What Mr. Jeevarathnam said is correct. You need not bother to deduct any Professional tax from the gross earnings if it is less than Rs. 15,000 per month. The PT deduction is applicable on gross salary only for amounts of Rs. 15,001 and above.
