Employee Absconding - Absconding Employee

Hi Friends,
One of my friends known to me joined a company and left the organisation in just 1 month. He was shown as absconding. Now in his Appointment letter it is written that the employee should give one month notice period or give 1 month basic salary.
Friends my question is What does a company do in the case of an absconding employee?
Secondly Weather He should approach the company and give one month basic salary and properly resign?
He is confused What to do and What will be the companys course of action in case of an absconding employee?

You have mentioned that your friend has absconded from the organization and why is he confused on closing the chapter. Is this because he received any "Show Cause Notice" from the last employer? Please be clear.
