What Happens When an Employee Absconds? Seeking Advice for a Friend's Situation

Hi Friends, One of my friends joined a company and left the organization in just one month. He was shown as absconding. In his appointment letter, it is stated that the employee should give one month's notice period or pay one month's basic salary. Friends, my question is: What does a company do in the case of an absconding employee? Secondly, should he approach the company, pay one month's basic salary, and properly resign? He is confused about what to do and what the company's course of action will be in the case of an absconding employee?
