Is My MBA Worth It? Feeling Undervalued Compared to Science Graduates' Salaries

Hi,

After completing my MBA, I joined a software firm as an HR Trainee. I was initially paid Rs. 7,000. After 2 months, I inquired about my permanent letter, and they offered an increase of Rs. 8,000 per month. After another 2 months, my salary was further raised by Rs. 3,000, totaling Rs. 11,000 per month.

Currently, I am recruiting undergraduates for technical positions, where the starting salary is mentioned as Rs. 7,000 per month with a raise to Rs. 14,000 per month after 6 months. I am questioning why I pursued an MBA only to receive a similar package to what other science graduates are getting. Is this situation right or wrong? I would appreciate your suggestions on this matter.

Maybe you have less experience than them, and what you said is not correct. An undergraduate may be more eligible than you.

No, they are also freshers only. Sorry, I'm not saying MBA is not eligible. Here is the case: that is why I have added many question marks after MBA in the subject line of the post.

Qualification is important nowadays. Companies are asking for the regular courses not only for the freshers but also for those who have more experience. Because if you are well-qualified, you will have professionalism in you, and you can put your efforts in, and your thinking matters a lot.

I agree with you, Manmitha. Probably undergraduates may also be more eligible, and that job wouldn't be matching your qualifications. And don't think about why you have done an MBA. It's good that you did it. You know, one thing, people study MCA or any other degrees whatsoever, but MBA is to DO. You just can't read and leave it. You should put your thoughts into it, and you should know every in and out of the Management; that is what we learn, isn't it?

I am too a recruiter working in a big staffing company.
The issue you are thinking is the same with lots of HR people no matters MBA or Graduates only. As per my opinion and experience, the value of HR person increases with the experience. Technical one may start with High package in the beginning but we do better with the passage of time.

Acquiring higher educational qualifications is not only meant for getting a package. It helps to deal with your work in a creative and dynamic way. It's my personal opinion. Since I've been working with some of my friends who have done only a master's degree, but I have done PGDHRM training in Delhi along with a master's degree. However, I am also getting the same pay. Even now, I am planning to take up an SAP course and PGDIR. Never look at the pay during the learning stage; instead, concentrate on upgrading your knowledge.

Do you feel, "In an organization, HR and other employees are two sides of a coin" or not? The reason for this is that we, as people, are very close to top management compared to other departments. In this case, we cannot limit our relationship with management solely to monetary terms.

We are meant to retain technical talent. To retain talent, money is crucial. When management is willing to provide assistance through salaries for technical personnel, your work for retention becomes easier, and we can focus on "how to make an employee loyal to the organization apart from money."

Additionally, as our Cite member mentioned, the value of HR will increase through experience. It's true, isn't it?

For example, a technical person can demonstrate their capabilities through results, which can be proven in a short time. However, we cannot showcase our results quickly.

In fact, I am also facing this problem. But the fact is that technical professionals, especially in software, are the highest-paid professionals, even if they are fresher.

I too did my M.B.A. and started my career with 7K per month as an HR trainee. But nowadays, B.E., B.Tech graduates start their careers with 3 lacs per annum. It's true that HR professionals receive a good package with experience.

I agree with Manmitha that graduates are more eligible than you. Please don't be upset; do your job perfectly, increase your knowledge and skills. One day, you will think that you will be getting a higher raise than any graduates, wherever or whichever company may be. 😄😄😄

Already discussed and concluded in my earlier topic that in HR, more skills rather than knowledge are required. So in India, your MBA degree stands nowhere before a 10th class pass with good communication skills. It's better to accept the truth rather than cribbing about it. This is something I am also facing. There's no value for an MBA in HR; in HR, only what you speak and communicate is valued. THANKS

Maybe the above post is not entirely correct. I seem to have misunderstood what you wanted to convey. Let me clarify one thing - don't compare your work with another person's work. You are in HR, a technical person is technical. Technical skills are more in demand in the market. In a company, typically only 10 HR staff are needed, whereas they require 50,000 technical staff because their main business is technical, not HR. Therefore, they invest more where they earn the most.
