New to the Family Business: What Role Fits a Director's Son with an MBA but No Experience?

Rajeevkejriwal
What designation should be given initially to a Director's son joining a manufacturing business? He holds an MBA in Marketing but has almost no experience.

Dear Sir,

Being the Director's son, he should have exposure to all the key functional departments. Due to the added advantage of his professional qualifications, he may be designated as an Executive Trainee and exposed to all departments initially. Subsequently, based on his expertise, he may be appointed as a functional head.

It should be the aim of the MD's son to learn the work of the whole organization. Hence, he should start as a trainee, going round all the departments and learning. At the end of the training, he should start as a Junior Executive and begin climbing up the ladder.

Being the son of Directors, he can be given any post in any department without experience or whatsoever. But, in my opinion, initially, he should be designated as a Management Trainee to maintain the code of conduct and decorum in others as well.

This revised version corrects the spelling and grammar errors, as well as ensures proper paragraph formatting with a single line break between the paragraphs. The meaning and tone of the message remain unchanged.

A Director's son may eventually take over the running of the company. To enable him to excel, it's ideal if he is made to undergo on-the-job training and serve as an 'Executive Trainee' in each and every department. If I were him, I would use the opportunity to understand the challenges that come with the work in each department I am attached to.

After the all-round training, the Director may choose an appropriate designation for the son to take off...

Management Trainee... Citehr says short... Please position him as Management Trainee. I have been a mentor for several Management Trainees since 2005. :)

The MD's son should be kept as an executive on probation, at least for three years, and should be compulsorily made to take training at almost all the grassroot operative levels to understand the requirements and rigors of jobs under each stream of the company's affairs so that he gets sufficient inputs to be able to handle important decision-making positions in the coming times.
