The Karnataka Industrial Establishments (National and Festival Holidays) Act, 1963 (State Act w.e.f. 11-07-63)
Object: This Act provides for the grant of national and festival holidays to persons employed in industrial establishments in the State of Karnataka.
Applicability: It applies to any industrial establishment in the State of Karnataka.
Grant of National and Festival Holidays: Employees are entitled to national holidays on 26th January, 1st May, 15th August, 2nd October, and 1st November, plus five other festival holidays in each calendar year. However, in the case of undertakings of the Government of India, only three national holidays plus five other festival holidays are allowed. In the case of general elections to the Lok Sabha and Vidhana Sabha and in the case of any by-election, a holiday shall be given to all employees on polling day. Approval of holidays in case of disagreement between employer and employee is referred to the concerned area Labour Officer for decision.
