Understanding Interim Increment Issues: Compensation Dispute and Legal Compliance

Dear All, Please help me solve my query. I was working with one of the private institutions in Bhopal. I joined there on 18th Nov 2013 as an assistant professor of Marketing. After completing one year, I was supposed to get an increment as I filled out the appraisal form. However, I did not receive the increment. I discussed this issue with my director and received Rs. 5000 in the months of March and May as an interim increment to compensate for that non-incremented period. I was assured that I would receive my regular increment in the July salary, but it did not happen.

Then, I decided to resign with one month's notice and completed all documentation on time with no dues. I was assured that the remaining salary would be given by check as full and final settlement. Now, they are asking me to deposit Rs. 10,000 in cash before issuing the check.

Please comment on whether this action by the college is lawful or not.

What are they asking Rs10000 cash for? Will they provide a receipt? Prima facie, the demand appears unjustified and incorrect.

Sir, they are asking to deposit the amount in cash and no receipt will be given. They said this amount is given to you apart from your salary, so you have to return it.
