Layoff Dilemma: Can Employees Use Earned Leave During Temporary Layoffs?

I am working in the industry as an HR professional. Recently, my company decided to lay off workers for 7 days for the first time. Some workers have approached me asking if they can utilize their earned leave during the layoff days.

You haven't mentioned the total number of workmen in your establishment, leaving us to presume that it is less than 100, so that no prior permission is required. Lay-off entitles workmen to 50% of the total of basic wages + D.A. only. As such, their demand seems to be reasonable, and you can consider it depending upon the frequency of lay-offs normally declared in your establishment.
