Struggling with Email Restrictions at Work: How Can I Prove My Side?

snigdha shubhangi
My boss is not allowing me to communicate through email, which should serve as evidence of my perspective. She has restricted me from doing so, and whenever a question arises, she never supports me and requires proof of her instructions and my completed work. Please help me and advise on what I should do?

What has been the need for you to retain records of your activity? Has there been a rupture between you and your boss? If yes, why? You are just an HR trainee, meaning too junior for any such situation to even crop up. Unless you give the full and complete picture of the situation, any suggestion, including Raghunathan's, is usually based on generalities and can't be related to specific issues or situations. If you wish to have actionable suggestions, please give the full background.

Dear Snigdha,

You have just started as an HR Trainee, and you seem to be taking a confrontational route—almost challenging the boss and trying to collect evidence! I don't know why you need to collect evidence, but the better thing for you would be to focus on learning and making the best use of the time and the opportunity.

Give a good start to your career.

I hope you are doing well at work and are looking forward to recognition on both sides for your hard work. Never expect your boss to praise you immediately or anticipate immediate rewards. Do not collect any evidence, just let things be as they are.

1) Always keep two notes handy – one to jot down instructions received, and another to track whether you have completed them on time or not.

2) Stay updated with the situation. Whenever you receive instructions, make a note of them. If you face any challenges, address them with a smile and express your willingness to organize. No one should hinder your progress.

3) In the second note, prioritize your tasks, work on them sequentially, and complete them with excellence.

Remember, you do not need any evidence for your work or the instructions. Keep it simple and let your work speak for itself. Believe in yourself, you are a natural talent – all you need is some polishing.

Best of luck!
