How Can We Reactivate My Father's ESIC Card After Years of Unemployment?

sriaman
Hello Concern,

My father was using ESIC from 2009 to 2012, but after 2012, he left his job and has not been working with any company since then due to physical issues. We would like to continue with the same ESIC card, so please advise on what steps we need to take.

Coverage Under the ESI Act, 1948

1. Coverage under the ESI Act, 1948, and the rules/regulations framed thereunder is not optional. Hence, an employee or ex-employee cannot become a member of ESIS or leave by their own will and choice.

2. However, under Rule 61 of the ESI (Central) Rules, 1952, a retired insured person, "being an insured person for not less than five years," can be entitled to medical benefits (facilities) subject to payment of a fee and certain conditions as mentioned in the said rule. If considered appropriate, you can discuss the issue with the Branch Office Manager of ESIC to which your father was attached.

Regards
