Confused About Notice Period Start Date? Seeking Clarity on Resignation Process in MNC

Karthikeyan@maverick
Hi, I am currently working in an Indian MNC. I recently submitted my resignation, but my line manager and his superior have not accepted it yet. In my company, resignations are processed through SAP. I followed the procedure by submitting my resignation on SAP to my managers and HR. Additionally, I sent a hard copy of the system-generated resignation letter, duly signed, to all relevant parties.

Notice Period Clarification

My question is, when I inquired with HR about the notice period, she mentioned that the notice period begins from the day I submit my resignation and clarified that it is not dependent on SAP approval. SAP approval is primarily for necessary clearances.

Could you please clarify when an employee's notice period officially commences? Is it on the day of submission of the resignation?

Notice period starts from the day when you give the resignation letter. Depending on your firm's policy, calculate the period from that day onwards. Some have a one-month notice period, while others have a three-month notice period policy. The period includes holidays and leaves taken by you.

As per my knowledge, your notice period starts when your resignation is accepted by your respective reporting manager either in hard copy or via email. For SAP approval, once your reporting manager accepts your resignation, you then need to submit a request in SAP.

As per my experience, the notice period starts from the day you submit your resignation. If you don't receive an acceptance email, follow up with the respective head. They may be busy, but try to convince them to provide you with the effective date.

Notice period starts the moment you receive acceptance from your Reporting Manager or Approving Authority. It may be communicated via SAP or hard copy, and it will not make any difference.

The day you submit the resignation, your notice period starts. However, based on the tasks you are responsible for completing, the last day will be communicated to you upon agreement by both parties. In your case, it seems like your HR has already addressed your concerns by answering you in accordance with company policy. So, what is it that you are worried about? Let alone SAP.

The day when an employee puts his/her resignation, the loyalty factor diminishes from that day. Hence, the resignation date or the date of sending the resignation will be taken into account.

With regards to your query about where the hiccup is, do you want to stay longer, i.e., the difference in days between the actual resignation and its approval? Kindly clarify so that members can respond accordingly.
