Dear Jagjeetsingh.Aroraunileve,

Discussion you invited has so many aspects. We as HR professionals, at least I, are not experts in such kind of technical issues. Bear in mind, half knowledge is very dangerous.

However, this forum is meant for enhancing knowledge by sharing, I would like to participate in the discussion.

You have installed 625 KVA Diesel Generator ( Accostic) in the premises of your factory. It seems to me, this DG set is installed as per the approved plans of machinery lay out and now you have made the change in it by erecting shed on it. Under this scenario it is presumed that:

i. you must have followed the norms under the Petroleum Rules 2002, Explosive Rules for storage of diesel etc.;

ii. you must have complied the provisions under Local Body Act such as Municipal Act in respect of trade / use and storage of diesel, fire protection, provisions under Environmental Law etc.;

iii. you must have obtained the permission for the use of D.G. Set under Electricity Supply Act, 1948.

Now the change of erection of shed has to be incorporated in your approved plans. You need to apply for it by submitted fresh plans.

When you submit the fresh plans for approval by the Factory Inspector, the approve will be given to you subject to certain conditions as deem fit to him i.e. to factory inspector, such as requirement of fire extinguishers, NOC from fire brigade, NOC under Environmental Law etc.

Mr. Jagjeetsingh, Please note that this is a forum for handling Human Resources related issues and problems as well as discussions. You have posted a problem, not relevant to this site at all. Talk to the person or company related to the DG Set such as Kirloskars or somebody.

Sharing my views on this post - that having knowledge on statutory aspect of the technical installation is something which is essential to all. Second if the issue is on sharing the information on safety and security of people we must welcome.There are many contributors who may have good knowledge and like to share with us.
As regards to the query -
Earthing, Loose connection, open cable layouts, improper fuel storage Etc are the causes that may pose fire threats/electrification threats.
To prevent from any fire incidents - the supplier usually provided fire extinguishers along with DG sets.However added precautions will be required to keep extra fire extinguishers near the DG set.Fire Buckets /sand buckets/fire beater etc may be kept as tools to fight fire in case of emergencies.Suggest deputation of expert to monitor DG set when its running.
Apart from this as Mr. Korgaonkar Sir Indicated - statutes/norms related to such installations to be adhered strictly.

Dear keep sand bucket and fire extinguisher near D.G. set to avoid fire threat and get it approve from the fire dept. also get it incorporated in the earlier fire load /plan submitted during the NOC from the dept.
Installation formality is well known to vendor who install DG set in factory.

Dear Jagjeet,
As per my knowledge first of all, you will check its a permanent shed or temporarily.
First you take permission from local body for temporary shed.
or is this permanent shed then you have to take permission form factory inspector with changes in factory plan.
I hope your problem will be solved.
Thanks & Regards,

ask your insurance company to survey the site of DG set whether safety precautions taken are sufficient and if not what needs to be done. There are safety auditors also who are authorized to carry out such survey and report deficiency and measures to be taken to rectify defects if any.
