Understanding Gratuity Calculation: Basic vs. Last Drawn Salary

Bhat_S
Hello everyone. I joined a company in Bangalore in March 2011. Now, I have a better opportunity with another organization, and the current employer is troublesome too. I need to wait for at least 6 more months. Is it wise for me to leave before receiving my gratuity? I am confused about whether the basic salary or the last drawn salary is considered for calculating gratuity. If the last drawn salary is used, is it the net salary or the take-home salary?

Only Basic + DA will be considered for the calculation of Gratuity.

Last drawn Basic + DA will be considered for calculation of Gratuity.
5 years service in organisation is the minimum eligible criteria
Gratuity = Last drawn wages × 15/26 × 5 (Completed years of Service)
Calculate the Hike Amount, If the hike amount is more than the gratuity that you get in 6 months period . you can change your job. unless wit for 6 months take gratuity then leave.

What do we mean by DA or dearness allowance? This confuses me.

Yes, DA stands for Dearness Allowances. If the company is providing it, otherwise the last drawn Basic will be considered.

First of all, you have not completed the required minimum service of 5 years under the Payment of Gratuity Act. You mentioned that you joined in 2011, so you will be eligible only in 2016. For the computation of Gratuity, the last salary drawn with Basic and DA will be taken into account, subject to the completion of 5 years. The option is yours - whether you want Gratuity or a better opportunity.
