Is My HR Experience Enough to Land a Good Job While Pursuing a PGDHRM?

Shweta Swarnkar
Hi All,

I am Shweta. I have 3 years of experience in HR and Admin. I am pursuing my PGDHRM from Symbiosis Distance Learning.

How much scope do I have as I want to change my job? Would my experience be enough for a good company?

Hi,

I saw your message. You have good experience at hand. Moreover, for HR, knowledge is more important than qualifications. If you have confidence in yourself, you can strive for improvement.

Thanks.

How much knowledge is required for factory laws? Actually, I know the applicability and a brief overview of all. How much in-depth knowledge should I have?

You have ample scope.

I also did my PGDM after 8 years of working experience. During interviews, they asked me, "Oh, you have so much experience, have you done any courses?" My answer was yes, but they never even bothered to check which year I completed my PGDM.

At present, I am working in the capacity of HOD.

Hi Shweta,

Top MNCs are giving more importance to the qualifications too. They have set the minimum qualification as MBA or MSW. According to them, this is the minimum requirement. Therefore, having this minimum qualification is a must to be eligible to apply as an HR in these top MNCs. This is not based on others' experiences. I am writing this based on my personal experience.

Instead of trying to ascertain whether qualifications or experience are preferred, it is wise to pursue an MBA. Having over 3 years of experience along with an MBA will definitely help you in securing the position you are aiming for.

Thank you for your response.

I agree that not completing an MBA can be a drawback in some of my interviews. That's why I decided to start my MBA.

However, I believe that some companies do consider candidates based on their experience.

Sweta,

Your PGDHRM will definitely be helpful for getting more opportunities in a job. Generally, the required qualifications are an MBA or its equivalent, and PDHRM is an equivalent degree. Moreover, obtaining it from Symbiosis is very advantageous. With three years of experience already under your belt, by the time you complete your PDHRM, your experience will have significantly increased, providing you with many more opportunities to grow in your career. Proceed with your studies, and best of luck to you.

Dear Shweta,

Yes, it is necessary nowadays to have a professional degree or diploma; otherwise, you can't grow. You will have to concentrate more on professional courses later on.

Thanks & Regards,

While you are pursuing the course at Symbiosis, you have to elaborate on the experience in detail on your resume with bullets of critical assignments and contributions you have made when applying for newer opportunities. The depth of experience drafted would determine the chances of getting selected for good opportunities. There are HR professionals in MNCs who are solely responsible for scheduling interviews. This is not to undermine their capabilities, but decisions are often made elsewhere. With 3 years of experience, you may have a broader knowledge due to involvement in various facets of HR functions from end to end. Detail the resume with specifics. A degree from Symbiosis would formalize your HR knowledge, but you would already be an expert by the time you complete your degree, which is more important.

So, it is experience for the experienced and qualification as the icing on top. Hope this helps.
