Facing Minimal Work in My Production Unit: Should I Surrender the ESI Code? Can Anyone Help?

Senraj nagarajan
Now I have undertaken the one small production unit. The previous management ran it under custom-based production. However, I have introduced new technology to cut down on manpower and expenses. Now, as there is very minimal work, I want to surrender the ESI Code. What should I do? Can anyone guide me?

Sir, there is no procedure for the surrender of ESI Code Number.

A unit/factory once covered will always be covered under the ESI Act, 1948, and rules/regulations framed thereunder, irrespective of the fact that the number of employees may have reduced or there is a change in the manufacturing process. Kindly see section 1(6) of the said Act.

Hi, there is no option to cancel PF and ESIC registration online. You need to visit the nearest PF office where you obtained registration. PF and ESIC registration can be cancelled, but only surrendered for permanent closure. Apart from that, you also need to keep ready all your PF and ESIC data as the concerned Inspectors will conduct an inspection before closing it. After ensuring there are no outstanding or discrepancies, the concerned branch officer will order its closure.

What Type of Documents Required for Surrender/Closure of EPF/ESI Account:

- Closure of Bank Account
- Surrender of Electricity
- Last 2 years' IT & GST Returns
- Full and final settlement and paid receipt of exit Employees
- Surrender of Trading License, if any
- Intimation letter to MCA if it is LLP/Private Ltd.
- Sale of machinery proof if it is a factory
- Surrender of telephone
- Dissolution of lease deed, rental deed
- Any other relevant documents if you can provide.

I hope this helps clarify the required documents for the surrender or closure of your EPF/ESI account.
