Changing Jobs: Do You Need to Re-register for ESI Like PF?

adewang17
Hi all,

I am a regular visitor to this site. I want to know, like PF, when an employee changes jobs, does he have to get re-registered for ESI?

Dear Archana,

In the case of ESI, if one changes the job, then he is required to apply for a new registration with that new organization.

Whereas, in the case of PF, one may either withdraw their PF amount or transfer the fund to their current employer.

Hi Amit,

My query is regarding PF. When an employee changes a job, does he have to apply for a new PF number because the new employer has their own PF registration number? I would like to know if the same formality applies to ESI when switching to a new employer.

Thank you.
adewang17
You mean to say if an employee gets registered under the ESI Act, he need not get a new number in case he changes jobs. Will his old ESI card continue?

One more thing - in case he gets an increment in salary and crosses ₹10,000, then what?

Hi Archana,

I agree with Amit. When an employee leaves or changes his job, he can continue with the same PF No. in his new job because the allotted PF Account number is just like a bank account number, which will remain the same; only the code numbers allotted to the employers are different.

However, when an employee changes his job, he can't continue with the same ESI No.; he will have to register himself again with ESIC to get a new Insurance No.

Hi Archna,

I am correcting myself that one can't continue with the same PF number, but he can transfer his old PF amount to his new PF account.

Thank you, Sushma.

Dear Archana,

If one crosses the ceiling of rupees 10,000 per month as gross salary, then obviously, he will be exempted under the ESI Act... Yes, Sushma very correctly said... he may transfer his deposited fund to the current PF number.

Thank you a million, Sushma.

But I have heard that a person can receive continued benefits for a few months (4-5 months, not sure) after they are out of the purview of ESI due to a salary hike. Is this true?

Dear Archana,

Actually, there are two return cycles of ESI in a year at an interval of six months, and one is required to complete the cycle till the end. So, even after exceeding the ceiling, one will get the benefits till the end of the cycle.

Dear All,

This is to inform you that just like PF, ESIC No. can be transferred. The process is that whenever we join, our current employer has to give an ESI No. transfer letter to the ESIC Dept. The ESIC cards need to be renewed.

Hi all,

When a person joins a new company, he can transfer his ESIC number to new establishments along with PF. We have been practicing this for a long time, and his number will remain the same. The new company has to inform the ESIC department along with the original ESIC-issued I-card. You will need to affix the address stamp and ESIC code stamp of the new company on the card.

There are two contribution periods in a year, i.e., April to September and October to March. For example, if you receive an increment in May of the same year, and your gross pay increases over 10,000, your contribution for the period (April - September) will continue, and from October, you will not be required to contribute to the fund. Once your contribution starts in any period, you have to contribute until the period is completed.

Hi Sushma, I am in agreement with Amit. When an employee leaves or changes his job, he can continue with the same PF number in his new job. The allotted PF Account number is similar to a bank account number, which remains the same; only the code numbers allotted to the employers are different. However, when an employee changes his job, he cannot continue with the same ESI number. Instead, he will have to register himself again with ESIC to obtain a new Insurance number. Regards, Sushma

Hi Satish, This is optional. There is no need to register again with ESIC, but you have to request a transfer from the previous employer or authority. Form no. 100 is used for transferring the ESI number, and it is only available at the ESI office. You will need to fill out a fresh declaration form for the present employer. Regards, Satish

Hi all,

I just want to give some input about the ESI code. If an ESI member changes his/her job in the same area of the local ESI office, then he/she doesn't need to apply for a fresh number. They only need to change the owner's name in their present ESI number.

Hi Arachana,

In the case of PF, one can withdraw their PF after 60 days from the relieving date, or they can transfer their PF account to their next organization. However, in the case of ESI, one has to create a new account when joining a new organization.

Take care,

Dear all,

I am a newcomer in your forum. Please inform me about the formalities for changing my staff's previous ESIC registration.

Dear All,

While joining the new organization, a new PF number will be allotted. However, the old ESI number remains valid and applicable with the new organization.

Dear Archana,

What Amit has stated is correct. As there are two cycles - April to September and October to March, hence when a person gets an increment and crosses the Rs. 10,000/- salary, he or she will get out of the preview of ESI only after completion of the cycle.

Hello, Dear All,

My question is I got a job in a Pvt Ltd company, but I have to leave this company due to some management issues within a week (No salary payment is applicable in this case). They told me that my PF & ESI request has already been sent. I don't know if the PF & ESI Registration has happened or not, but I informed them to cancel it. In this case, the new Pvt Ltd company also has a PF & ESI scheme. So, is there any clash or any issue that will arise from two registrations against the same employee?

Please help and take care.

Hi everybody,

I recently joined a company but resigned within a week. Now, I need to join another company as a fresher. Is there any problem regarding ESI and PF accounts with the new company? I don't know whether PF and ESI accounts were created in the old company or not. Please help me with this problem.
