Understanding Working Hours Regulations at HDFC Bank: Factories Act Compliance and Employee Rights

Neil@de
Today, I am going for an interview at HDFC Bank for a data entry operator position. However, they have informed me that the role requires working all seven days of the week and allows for a maximum of seven leaves in a year, excluding national holidays.

My question is, can HDFC Bank impose such conditions? To my knowledge, a worker is typically allowed to work a maximum of 48 hours per week with a full day off and should not work more than 10 consecutive days without a break, as per the Factories Act in India.

You are right. 48 hours should work in a week, with the 7th day designated as a weekly day off. In case of emergency work, if an employee worked on that day, within 10 days, they should take a Compensatory Off (C Off).

Please check if you are on their rolls or not. Small scale industries are required to follow these rules compulsorily; therefore, MNC companies will definitely follow these rules.
