Understanding Voluntary Provident Fund Limits: How Much Can You Contribute Beyond the 12%?

Kindly let me know the maximum limit of the Voluntary Provident Fund apart from the 12% mandatory PF.

As per the Payment of Wages Act, the maximum amount of deduction allowed from the gross salary is 50%. Therefore, your PF contribution and all other deductions together cannot exceed 50% of the gross wages.

As per the Payment of Wages Act, 50% of deductions can be made in the form of fines, damages to or loss of goods, house accommodation by the employer, recovery of advances, payment of any premium of an insurance policy, etc. However, the employee can contribute 100% of basic & D.A. as VPF.

The above restriction is not applicable to a case where the salary of a person is above Rs. 18,000 per month. For them, any amount can be contributed to EPF, but the percentage will remain at 12.

For a person with a monthly salary above Rs 18,000/-, the above limitation is not applicable. However, the percentage can be above 12 for employees, but employers need not contribute an equal amount.
