Understanding 1/6th Leave Reserve in Security Contracts: Can Someone Explain?

nikhil5968
Sir,

What is the meaning of 1/6th leave reserve in a security contract? Kindly clarify the same, please.
Prashant B Ingawale
If you want security for 30/31 days, then these are nothing but reliever expenses. This means another security guard will work when the other guard will be enjoying a weekly off after working for 6 days.

Nikhil,

When you signed the contract, didn't you clarify this aspect? If a term was not clear, it should have been clarified before entering into the contract. Shri Prashant has given a clarification on the term anyway.

As Mr. Prashanth rightly mentioned, 1/6th relieving charges are meant to cover security services for all the days in the calendar month. The Security Agency will have an additional 1/6th of the total strength to provide security services round the clock, every day of the calendar month. However, you will only be required to pay for the actual days worked by the security personnel, not an additional 1/6th relieving charges.

Contracts are covered for an average number of working days, such as 30 and 31, i.e., 30.43 days on average per month. Wages are calculated based on 26 days, with the difference for a month being 30.43 - 26 days, which equals 4.43 days. These 4.43 days are referred to as relief days, slightly more than 1/6 of a day.

Thank you all for the reply, @Natraj.

1. Thank you, sir. I still have a doubt. Suppose the daily basic + VDA = 312. If the person is working for 26 days, we have to give 26 * 312 = 8112. If the person is not working for four Sundays, how much do we have to pay for this period? Is it 1/6th of 8112 = 1352, or simply 8112 for the whole month? Kindly clarify, sir.

2. If we are only giving 8112 for the whole month (26 days of work), what about those four Sundays? Suppose a substitute is working on those four Sundays. Do we have to give a salary to that substitute for those four days?
