Changing Jobs: Do I Need to Submit Bills for Special Allowance Payments?

SUBHASH BIJJUR
Hello,

I am changing my job, and I can see a column for a special allowance in my new TEC breakup. My concern is that I cannot claim (produce a bill) for all allowances mentioned under special allowance. Is it mandatory to produce bills to get them paid? If I fail to produce a bill every month, will it be paid at the end of the financial year? Please help.

You do not need to show bills for the special allowance amount to claim it. It is part of the salary under taxable income, if it crosses the limit in PA. For not deducting tax from that amount, you need to show some investment declaration.

You can claim the Medical allowance amount and LTA by submitting bills.

@Stephen, thank you very much for your information.

I have the following as my special allowances. Will they be paid in my monthly take-home without any claim?

- Tele bills
- LTA
- Car lease
- Professional pursuits
- Conveyance
- Car running expenses

This arrangement works in two ways. Some companies pay the amount without a bill and deduct taxes, while others may pay your bill directly regarding telephonic expenses, etc.

LTA will surely be paid with or without bills. For others, you should check with HR of the company.

Telecom Bills
If it's against actual expenses incurred and you have the bills to support it, it's tax-free. If you are paid simply as an allowance, then it's part of salary income and taxable.

LTA
You should show documents/bills to support expenses incurred and reimbursed by the employer, subject to your limits.

Car Lease
Please clarify whether it's a loan paid by the employer to buy a car. Was there any interest subsidy towards this loan? If so, it forms as a perquisite and is subject to limits of exemption, making it taxable.

Professional Pursuits
Could you provide more details, please?

Conveyance
More details, please?

Car Running Expenses
Isn't it another form of transport allowance for commuting between your house and office or on official duties? Subject to limits, it's tax-free.
