My Friend Forged a Relieving Letter: What Consequences Could He Face and How Can He Move Forward?

nivedita.havas@gmail.com
Hi, I have a friend who has made a mistake. He is an architect. He received an offer letter from a highly reputable architecture firm, requesting him to join as soon as possible. Previously, he was facing issues with his current company as they were not providing him with his relieving letter and were causing problems for him. This situation had frustrated him, and he was eager to make a switch. Additionally, he was experiencing financial difficulties, which prompted him to create a fake relieving letter and forged signatures. However, his current company discovered this deceit and asked him to leave, confiscating his documents.

Please advise on the potential consequences of his actions and how he should handle this situation.

The only way out is a humble apology and quiet departure.

Forgery is an offence under IPC, and consequences can be there if not handled very tactfully and apologetically.

Dear Nivedita,

Ask your friend to quit the job, search for another one, and this time don't lie to the company. If you are applying or joining any reputed firm, they have contacts for background verification. Nowadays, companies are sending direct emails to HRD for employee verification. I also use the direct contact method in my company for employee verification.

So, either build good relations with HR or tell the truth during the interview to secure the job.

All the best.

Dear Nivedita,

Your friend has committed acts of forgery; he must consider his current employer to be very "large-hearted" if he is released without registering any case. He must remember that shortcuts lead to painful situations and have an impact on future job prospects. He must own up to everything to his current employer and remember this experience throughout his life.

Take care,
