Am I Entitled to My Salary After Resigning with a Short Notice Period?

pankaj0172
Hi all,

My name is Pankaj Kumar and I work in an MNC. I had worked with my previous employer for one month before resigning due to better job prospects. I provided a two-day notice period when I resigned. Now, can anyone tell me whether I am entitled to my salary? Should the employer pay me or not?

Thank you.

What is the notice period specified in your appointment letter? If you have given only 2 days' notice, I am afraid the MNC will recover notice pay from you.

Hi Nathrao, thanks for your prompt response.

I think I am under probation period, and in the appointment letter, there is no notice period mentioned for it. I read the appointment letter and found that after confirmation, the notice period will be for one month.

Please suggest further about my salary... thanks

Yeah, why not. But if there is any hindrance by company policy, then maybe you'll get it or not. Apart from that, if you received 1 month's salary, then in the F&F settlement, you'll receive a stipulated amount but after notice pay recovery.

"I think I am under probation period."

If you are in a probation period, it is easier to leave the job. There is no requirement of a notice period. The employer is bound to pay you for the period of one month.

Understanding Your Company's HR Policy

First of all, kindly tell us about your company's existing HR policy. I hope you signed the acceptance letter at the time of your joining.

Notice Period Compliance

Kindly note the notice period. If you agreed to serve with a notice period, you have to adhere to it.

Communicating with New Employer

You can contact your new company's HRM and explain the notice period of your existing company and inquire about the joining time.

Negotiating with Previous Employer

If the new offer is extremely good and the new company is not providing any joining time, then go and meet your previous employer. Try to convince them by showing your financial commitments.

Without following all the above steps, if you want to join a new company, that will not reflect well. You should prepare your mind to obey your previous employer's instructions for not providing proper notice for your resignation.
