MEDICLAIM POLICY BENEFITS - me and my spouse are in the same company - if I can demand the company to take policy for both?

pulq
I would like to inform you that myself and my spouse are working with the same company. Our company provide mediclaim policy including spouse but company takes only one policy for us and gives us only one medi heath card to me and my spouse. it means company should take policy to both of us as they take for other employees. so that i can get benefit for myself as an employee and from spouse side as a spouse. I would like to know if I can demand the company to take policy for both of us so that we can get benefits from each other side. As first of all we are employees and then our relationship comes. pl advise.

Husband & Wife are considered as one. If both of you are working in different companies, it is different ball game altogether. If you get 2 mediclaim policies, limit is enhanced. In one policy, the limit is 1/2. HR is the final decision making authority.

What exactly is the benefit you are looking for ?
The company must have decided on medi claim policy considering the amount of coverage a family needs. Just because both of you are working do you need double the limit ? Is the existing limit inadequate ?
You should not be looking at that expenditure as an entitlement but as a security benefit.
If you fall sick and have 2 policy, you can claim the bills only from one of them not from both.

Thank you Mr Sawant...i want to clear it that our company take mediclaim only for self and spouse and not for a family. in our case company take only one policy in my name so my spouse in also include in this. but i want that company take mine and my spouse policy, so that in mine my spouse can covered and from my spouse side myself include. Company takes policy of Rs.1 lac for myself and my spouse also can claim upto Rs 1 lac. but it company takes this policy for both of us i can get 1 lac from my side and 1 lac from spouse side or company can take only one policy total of Rs 2 lac for us. which option should i request to company. as in other companies also if husband and wife working with the same company get mediclaim for both of them so that they get benefits equally to other one employee get.

Dear Pulq,
It is totally your company's discretion whether to avail mediclaim policies to both - you and your spouse. But premium is going to be paid by you or your spouse. So i would suggest that you to raise a query to HR dept stating additional benefits which you will get if a seperate policy can also be availed by your spouse.
Moreover nowadays the mediclaim policies include: Self, Spouse and max. of 2 kids.

The company very clearly intends to insure each person and his spouse once only. It is a welfare measure and not am encashable perquisite from their perception. Unless it is in both your CTC, you can not demand it as a right.

Then there is a concept of insurable interest and double insurance. Under that doctrine if you 2 covers for the same item, you can use only one of them in the end. So having your self covered for both you and your wife (as spouse) would not have any meaning.

Correct me if I am wrong; but if medi-claim premium is a part of your CTC (cost to company), then clearly company is saving one premium. They should pay one of you equivalent to the premium (you or your spouse, where policy is not taken).

Hi,
Check the sum insured is same or doubled.
for ex 2lakh policy for you and spouse can be utilized till 2lakh.
on the other hand 2 lakh 2 policies will be 4 lakh.
that means each of you can be benefited full.
ask the authorities to add rider for your policy
pulq
Thank you all. . this mediclaim premium is part of CTC but my company takes only one policy between me and my spouse for Rs.1 lac . it means company should take two policy for both of us separately for Rs 1 lac for each or they take one policy for Rs 2 lac for both of us. pl suggest me what should i can demand?
