Exploring Motivation, Gratefulness, and Positive Mindset in the Workplace

I am fascinated with the idea of blogging and couldn't stop myself from creating a blog on motivation. It's a very new blog on motivational quotes, thoughtful stories, and contemporary thoughts.

I always believe that by narrating stories, we can engage participants in motivation. The following anecdote may be useful for this. Please share your view on this.

The Intelligent Servant

When he was staying at an air base in Africa, author Saint-Exupéry passed the hat among his friends because a Moroccan servant wanted to return to his hometown. He managed to collect a thousand francs. One of the pilots flew the servant as far as Casablanca and told the following story when he came back:

– As soon as he arrived, he went to have dinner in the very best restaurant, handed out generous tips, paid for drinks all around, and bought dolls for the children in his village. This man hadn’t the slightest notion of economy.

– Quite the opposite, answered Saint-Exupéry. “He knew that the best investment in the world is people. Spending in that way, he managed to win all over again the respect of his countrymen, and they will offer him a job. After all, only a winner can be so generous.”

Reading the blog on motivation, I chanced upon a short article which is reproduced below:

There was a farmer who sold a pound of butter to the baker. One day, the baker decided to weigh the butter to see if he was getting a pound, and he found that he was not. This angered him, and he took the farmer to court. The judge asked the farmer if he was using any measure. The farmer replied, "Your Honor, I am primitive. I don't have a proper measure, but I do have a scale." The judge asked, "Then how do you weigh the butter?" The farmer replied, "Your Honor, long before the baker started buying butter from me, I have been buying a pound loaf of bread from him. Every day when the baker brings the bread, I put it on the scale and give him the same weight in butter. If anyone is to be blamed, it is the baker."

Moral of the Story

What is the moral of the story? We get back in life what we give to others. Whenever you take an action, ask yourself this question: Am I giving fair value for the wages or money I hope to make? Honesty and dishonesty become a habit. Some people practice dishonesty and can lie with a straight face. Others lie so much that they don't even know what the truth is anymore. But who are they deceiving? Themselves.

My View

One should show integrity in life. Do not try shortcuts and jugaad as a matter of course. In our corporate world, we find employees absconding without a thought and then struggling for a good job. We find corporates cutting corners and saving money by being nasty with employees during the FNF process. Be competitive, customer-oriented, and people-friendly to do well in business. Your employees are your real assets. Motivate them to do their best.

I have gone through your blog but due to some technical difficulties, I was not able to view the images. Nonetheless, your efforts are commendable.

Suggestions for Enhancing Employee Motivation

I suggest adding motivators (self) at the workplace for employees:

- Include a few quizzes on sports, personality, market trends, world events, politics, general knowledge, etc. This can encourage employees to visit your blog for a refreshing break.
- Incorporate games like Sudoku, puzzles, etc.
- Introduce creative handwork activities that utilize office waste, which can help keep morale high.
- Recommend the idea of gifting, as it can bring immense pleasure.

I hope my suggestions, though not a branch, are a leaf out of the book!!!
