Struggling to Rejoin the Workforce After a 4-Year Gap: Are My Chances Really Slim?

Hello all, I need to ask you all that I completed my Master's in 2006, then I went for a job in the same year. I changed companies in 2007, and until 2011, I served the same company. However, due to some personal differences with my head, I had to quit my job, and I started my own online business with my friend, who specialized in online work. When I started, I enjoyed working with him because I was making a good amount of money. But for the past year, our business has not been running well due to updated Google policies. Now, I am willing to rejoin the workforce, but I am facing difficulties in finding a new job. Most of my contacts have mentioned that due to your 4-year gap, it would be difficult for you to get started again. Are they right? If yes, then what should I do now?

People with experience in entrepreneurship are very much sought after. You need to present it well in your resume and during the interview.

You need to decide the area in which you want to work, and it will be better if you work in an area where you have gained experience, i.e., online work.

Please do not lose heart. Setbacks are part and parcel of life. Keep trying in both areas. That is a company job and also other opportunities available online. It will not be a bad idea to try a third alternative. Perseverance is the solution. You will succeed.

You have not mentioned which kind of work you have done online. However, gaining experience in entrepreneurship is not a bad idea. You have a good networking experience. Why not consider pursuing a career in online work? There are many companies that can offer you job opportunities. In this era of technology, everybody purchases goods online. Why not submit your resume to companies like Snapdeal, Flipkart, Amazon, etc.?
