Techno Freak
“Excess of anything is bad.”
Today, being Saturday, I got some time to skim through the newspaper when I came across an article about the 'current era' becoming more and more of a techno freak, considering it to be smart enough to make a notable place in society.
Initially, it had the impression of being an in-thing in the market, making it easier for people to connect, locate lost contacts, and more. However, over time, seeing its high usage resulting in bad health in all aspects, both physically and mentally, made me reconsider having them as an integral part of our lives.
For a while, a few questions have been popping up in my mind, such as: Do you all really think so? Has it become a must to have 'smartphones' and 'tablets'? Isn’t it building a gap between relationships? Isn’t it increasing anxiety, curiosity, and expectations among us? After a brainstorming session with myself, I have come to terms with the fact that it’s making all of us overdependent on hi-tech gadgets, making us anti-social. I cannot deny that indeed these gadgets are a great relief in today’s hectic schedules. However, people spending more time with their gadgets than with their family and friends is alarming. I know people who feel therapeutic after playing games on mobile/tablets/laptops or chatting on WhatsApp or social media from a stressful life, and I am no different from them as well.
I feel that being techno-savvy is good to a limit, but beyond that thin line, things are becoming difficult for people to handle. People being glued to their gadgets are leading to boredom, becoming self-centric, scrolling the screen for hours, developing high expectations from others to respond to every message, sending invites on WhatsApp, wishing birthdays/anniversaries on social media, and many more such activities. I believe time and effort are being put into being unproductive rather than utilizing the time ideally for a fruitful day. However, health issues occurring due to it include disturbances in sleep, anxiety, loneliness, etc.
Let’s take a pledge to limit our usage and start calling close ones to feel the same old warmth.
