Can Private Employees Get Extra Leave for Voting on Municipal Election Day?

Abhijit284
Will anybody please inform me about the Municipal Election day (in Metro City) regarding whether a private organization will grant special leave (beyond the listed holiday) or if employees have to take leave from their account if they cannot come for casting their vote?

The State Government has already declared a holiday on that day for all Government Offices, Organizations under it, Undertakings, Corporations, Boards, Statutory and Local Bodies, Educational Institutions, etc., situated within the Municipal Corporation/Municipality area as stated above, which shall remain closed on the date of the poll, i.e., 18.04.2015.

You don't have to give any leave for the local elections. There may be guidelines issued by the local election commissioner (DC/Collector) in this regard; you may check for that.

Please refer to Government of West Bengal notification No. 2649-F(F) dated 26/03/2015.

This is a holiday under the Negotiable Instruments Act and is mandatory and binding for all employees, including shopkeepers, except for those running continuous production plants which can't be stopped. In any case, the employee has to be facilitated for casting his vote, maybe by a change in duty time/partial holiday, etc.

You need not give any holiday for local elections. Only for Parliament and your state elections, you have to give holidays as per the act.
