What Does an HR Professional Do Daily in a Small IT Company with Few Hires?

Hi all,

I want to know what the daily work of HR is in a small IT company with an employee strength of 20. When there is less recruitment, what should an HR professional do?

It is sometimes good to start with a small company. There are a lot of things you can do, learn, and experiment with. In a small company, there is vital time to spend on resources and to experiment with new things in HR.

As you said, there is less recruitment happening in the company. You may be interested in developing a small HR manual for the employees. You may also try basic training programs, which may be fruitful for the IT employees.

You can also spend time researching contemporary HR developments happening in IT. When the owners/management ask you for suggestions, you can be ready with some.

There are many suggestions, but these are some of the basics to start with. Hope you will benefit from these.

Anuradha

Friend,

An HR is supposed to be the conscience of an organization. In a startup, HR can initiate a lot of functions beyond the official scope of duty in consultation with the management, which might bring about a positive change in the long run.

Hi,

You can concentrate on innovative employee engagement activities and motivational initiatives. The role basically involves many responsibilities such as attendance management, leave management, payroll management, employee engagement, grievance handling, recruitment, and joining and exit formalities.

Hi,

You can concentrate on building the HR policies (mobile usage, recruitment process, attendance process, selection process, leave process, induction process, relieving process, etc.), Employee handbook, introducing interview evaluation sheet (if not implemented), employee engagement activities, and building a good relationship with the employees as an HR of the company.

Thank you.

Besides trying the above-mentioned strategies, you can also request management for additional work, for example, in the area of external communication. This will help you improve and contribute to your overall development.

Please let me know if you need further assistance or have any other questions.

Presumably, yours is a start-up company. It appears to me that you have a handful of duties and responsibilities right now. You have to handle everything from the HR point of view. I wonder when you start initiating all these tasks, probably you'll have no time to ask these questions. You have to proactively put everything in place and in practice. Whether you'll have recruitments to do or not, as long as you have your personnel on the rolls, there is nothing to overlook. I think statutory compliances themselves will occupy all of your office time; perhaps you'll seek an assistant in your department.

After completing your daily routine, spend the spare time with the approval of the Chief studying and updating yourself on HR topics, the latest developments nationally and internationally. Study good books to improve your English grammar (which I can see is quite weak indeed), enhance your communication skills, and use the opportunity to develop yourself. It is a god-given opportunity; do not waste it.

Best wishes

Hi, you can work on an HR manual, process-related tasks, develop HR forms, and work on employee MIS. Every week, you can also engage in employee welfare activities. There is plenty of work that you can do.

Try simple functions first like recruitment, compensation, development, relations, retention..

Thank you for submitting your text. Here is the corrected version:

Try simple functions first like recruitment, compensation, development, relations, and retention.

I have corrected the punctuation by adding a comma before "and" to properly connect the list of functions. The rest of the text is concise and clear. If you have any more text you would like help with, feel free to share!
