How Do I Explain a Job Abandonment Experience Letter to Future Employers?

Hi, this is Sivakrishna. I was an employee of an MNC in Chennai, where I worked for around 3 years. I resigned on 2nd December 2013. I repeatedly informed my manager and HR that I couldn't serve the notice period due to personal reasons and offered to pay a notice period amount equivalent to 2 months' salary. However, my manager did not accept this.

On 19th December 2013, they terminated my employment and asked me to pay all the dues. I paid around 56k in dues, after which they issued me a job abandonment experience letter and a termination letter. I am very disheartened because every new company asks about my termination.

Please assist me in understanding the purpose of the job abandonment experience letter and advise on how I can explain my termination to a new employer.

You will have to be truthful about the reasons for leaving the MNC and also about your efforts to keep management informed about your personal problems, which merited immediate release. I hope some of your communications were in writing.

Obviously, all new employers will perform pre-employment checks. One should be forthright in informing the new employer about what happened and what actions you took in trying for a smooth exit.

I do hope your problems, which made you exit, are solved and now things are on a smooth path for continuing further employment. Highlight this aspect and your suitability for employment.

I am sure you have met all targets during your 3 years of employment with the MNC. They must have graded you in their yearly assessments. I am sure they also would speak of your general ability to be a productive team member.

It becomes a battle to convince a new employer, but you have no choice but to face it strategically and intelligently.
