Feeling Stuck in My Job: How Can I Manage My Provident Fund and PAN Card Issues?

I am currently working as a Graduate Engineer Trainee in a reputed steel industry in India. I am not satisfied with my job and want to leave the company as soon as possible. I have a Provident Fund account, but I don't know my account number. The company has already forced me to sign a contract with BOPT (Board of Practical Training) for one year.

Does the Provident Fund account number get attached to my PAN card? If my company does not provide me with clearance, how will I join a new company? The new company will absorb me as a Graduate Trainee, and they will create another Provident Fund account - will that be a problem?

1. Check your payslip to know your PF number; many companies mention it on payslips. If you can't find it, check with the HR Department.
2. The PF number does not get attached to the PAN number.
3. Whenever you join a new company, they will generate a new PF number under their Establishment Code.
4. Have you completed one year in your current organization as per your contract? If yes, then there is no reason to hold your clearance. If you have not completed one year, kindly check the copy of your contract regarding any clause related to leaving the organization.

Thank you very much for giving me some valuable information. My tenure of 1 year is not over yet, but I am in a hurry to leave this company before 1 year. The contract copy was not given to us by the company. Also, I don't remember the clause for leaving the company. I will leave the company at my own decision. Will there be any problem if I don't get clearance before I join a new company? Can any particular individual possess more than one Provident Fund account under two different institutions?

The answer to your query is that it is not possible to have two Provident Fund numbers by an individual. It is also pertinent to note that since you have not completed one year in the present company, there is no question of allotment of any PF number by the company. Accordingly, no deductions towards Provident Fund would have been made from your salary until this period.
