How Do You Handle Unhappy Employees: Replace or Improve Their Performance?

Emad Egypt
Have you ever wondered why the negative employee comes to work every day if he or she is so unhappy with their job duties, the organization, or with management? Why doesn't the negative employee simply find another job where he or she will be happier?

What do you do if you are one of the managers of a multinational organization, thinking of making a decision to replace some staff due to poor performance or unprofessional behavior in the workplace? Do you prefer to replace the employee instead of working to improve performance? If anyone wants to share his or her feedback, you are welcome.

Addressing Negativity in the Workplace

Negative people are present in every walk of life. Even negative individuals need to earn to survive. So, even when complaining endlessly about work, life, politics, or life in general, he/she will continue to work. To combat negativity, one must avoid overgeneralizing the negative aspects and instead focus on the positive. It is important not to impose your views on others. Negativity can become a habit that is challenging to break, and all efforts to redirect your attention towards small achievements should be reinforced in your mind.

The Manager's Role in Combating Negativity

Regarding the manager's role, they need to communicate directly and effectively with their team members. Rumors should be dispelled through direct communication. Managers should engage with their team members to bring out the best in individuals and the organization. Rewards and positive reinforcement are essential management tools to guide negative individuals back on track or at least reduce negativity to a level where it does not hinder productivity.

Every organization, and for that matter, most families have individuals with a negative mindset. The best way to deal with them is through continuous counseling. If positive steps do not yield results, then it is better to consider termination, as otherwise, they will spread negativity among more colleagues. Negativity spreads faster than positivity.
