Starting an HR Career in Navi Mumbai: How to Land Your First HR Generalist Role?

I am Priyanka Adhikary pursuing an MBA with an HR specialization. I want to make my career in the HR field. I am staying in Navi Mumbai. There are various departments in HR. If I want to start my career with an HR generalist profile, then what will be the first step I have to take? How shall I proceed? Please advise because, without any experience, companies are not hiring any employees.

How to Prepare for a Generalist Profile in HR

Learn how to prepare salary, ESIC, and EPF. Accounts people (friends) may help you with that. Go through the EPFO and ESIC websites and take notes of everything. Explore the citehr website for issues in salary structure. Learn about gratuity acts. Be clear on the Bombay Shops and Establishment Acts, the slab of professional tax, and income tax deduction details.

A good understanding of the above details will help you secure a job in a Generalist profile. Knowledge of the Payment of Wages Act and Bonus Acts will be an added advantage.

The first step is to join a small-scale industry (SSI unit) as an HR trainee/assistant. Start by learning the basics and gaining preliminary experience by working in a small-scale company.
