Balancing Career and Marriage: Should I Resign to Job Hunt Closer to My Spouse?

Joeyy2546
Hi Seniors, my spouse works in Delhi, and I'm based in Calicut. I want to move to Delhi (got married a month back), but I'm not receiving any offers from the Delhi region. Is it okay if I resign and move to my spouse's place to search for jobs there? Will it be considered negative since I resigned from my job? Please advise.

Regards,
Joey

Hi Joey, it would be better if you could take leave, visit Delhi, and search for a job. Always remember, your bargaining power is greater if you have a job in hand. So, all the best for your search.

It's only an afterthought and not going to help in any way, having already resigned and moving to Delhi. As Annita said, it would be wise to search and then resign. Delhi is a big place, and sooner or later, you'll get one. Try to search through your known friends and relatives, and your spouse should also help to find one for you. Intensify your efforts and use all channels: print, online, one-to-one contacts, etc. All the best.

Please follow Anita's advice because if you resign, you will lose your negotiation power. Most importantly, if you have a Provident Fund (PF), your gratuity will be affected. So, please take leave and go to Delhi to search for a job. Best of luck.

It is not advisable to leave the job and search. Have you given your Delhi address on your resume? Please include it. Most of the time, people do not consider or call outsiders. Manage interviews by taking leave.

If you can manage your expenses for the next 4-6 months, you may leave the job and search. First, find any job in Delhi and then look for a better job suitable for your experience and education.

All the best wishes!
