How Can I Create an Inspiring HR Mission Statement That Motivates and Educates?

I am Ashish, working as an Assistant Manager - HR in a shoe-based retail company. I want to implement a mission statement for my department (HR). It will not only motivate the persons working within HR but also let others know how important HR is to the company and how it impacts the company.

I request you to please send me some valuable mission statements we can display on signboards, in our department, and on the floor.

You could think of one of the following:

- "To be an employer of choice"
- "To be a business partner in XXX company"
- "To create a 'best-in-class' HR shop in XXX company"
- "We mold the people who make your shoes"

Can I suggest something different - why don't you gather your whole HR team and take them for a day out and there brainstorm and create a mission statement?

a) It will be more meaningful.
b) There will be better buy-in.
c) All of you will be more motivated by looking at it.

And if you have time, you can also decide on your values. Believe me, it's going to be a transforming experience for the team. But do prepare the team beforehand so that the exercise is taken seriously. We had done it - and hope you too do. Let me know how it went if you decide to follow it up.
