Handling PF Account Settlement for a Deceased Former Employee: What Steps Should We Take?

Employee PF Account Settlement After Death

We have a situation where one of our employees resigned and joined another company around three to four years ago. Since then, he has neither transferred his PF Account nor withdrawn it. Recently, we learned that he passed away. His nominee (spouse) has approached us to settle his PF account or transfer it to the company where he joined after working with us.

Now, my concern is: can we proceed with the withdrawal formalities (along with the pension process) as we generally do for our employees who pass away while working in our company? If so, please detail the process. Or, are there any alternative methods to assist her?

Kindly revert as soon as possible.

Thanks,

Upender

There is no issue in completing the formalities. They will fill out Form 20 by attaching all the necessary documents to process the claim. Your task is to verify the joining date, date of birth, resignation date, death certificate, legal certificate, etc., and authorize them, then send it back to EPFO.

Do it on humanitarian grounds and help them.
